1.) The book I read was Coco Chanel An Intimate Life by Lise Chaney. The general theme of this book was that even though there are many obstacles in life if you chose to persevere you can achieve your goal. The book describes the life of Gabrielle (Coco) Chanel and how she went from a rough childhood after the loss of her mother to a successful and independent woman.
2.) When someone is trying to start their own business or be an entrepreneur in any way, there are going to be many struggles and I think that this book is in line with that. In this class we have discussed the many hardships entrepreneurs have to go through to become successful and this book is a great example of that.
3.) If I had to design an exercise for this class that was based on the book I would chose one that involves each student writing down their goals for the next ten years. This way students can go back and read these goals no matter what obstacles they are facing and keep moving forward to achieve their goals.
4.) The biggest surprise I encountered when reading this book was when I realized how many struggles Coco Chanel really went through and how independent she was through it all. She believed in herself and her work enough to get herself through these struggles alone and that was very interesting to read about.
Hi Madelyn! This book sounds very inspiring, especially to young women. I love books of success stories of people who went from having nothing to having everything they ever dreamed of having through hard work and dedication. I like your exercise design, I think it's very important for people to know what their goals are specifically so that they can work toward them with a better focus. Great post!

ReplyDeleteI didn't read this book for my assignment but it definitely sounds very interesting and like a good read. Even though this book is about Coco Chanel and the struggles she went through, its something we can all learn from since we all face obstacles.

Anyway, it seemed to be inspiring for you and it definitely touched on some good, beneficial things to learn when becoming an aspiring entrepreneur. It is very important to learn from failure and hardship and this book seemed to be a good place to hear about it first hand.
