30A- Final Reflection

Throughout this class there have been many ups and downs. One of the assignments that I will always remember is the three elevator pitches that were required. I usually do not like assignments that require me to speak, but I could really see the improvement throughout the class. That was something that was very interesting to see throughout the course. The idea napkin is another assignment that I thought was very interesting.
I think that by this point in the semester that I have developed a more entrepreneurial mindset.  At the beginning of this class I was unsure of what that exactly meant, but at this point I think I have a better understanding. I have also been able to think more like an entrepreneur in my everyday life.
My recommendation for other students would be to keep up with the assignments even if they get frustrated because there is much to be taken from this class. Also, watching the videos is an important step, especially for the cupcakes. If future students try to keep up with the videos and assignments, they should be able to get a lot out of this class.

29-A Venture Concept #2

Dorm Renovations at the University of Florida

Opportunities- The main opportunity in my business idea is the renovation of all the outdated dorm buildings at the university. Many of these building are in need of new air conditioning units and restroom renovations as well as other issues. This would greatly benefit current and incoming students living in dorms at the school. This would give them more comfortable living conditions. This would also benefit the university by having newer buildings on campus.  Many students that I interviewed said that they had many issues with their living conditions, which brought this issue to my attention. Students say there really is not anything they can do currently to fix this issue except call maintenance when there is an issue. This is a campus wide opportunity that will not be solved until these renovations take place.

Innovation- The innovation for this business idea would be the complete renovation of older dorms at the University of Florida. This would be an extremely expensive process, so to begin I would put fund raisers into place and make small renovations to get started. This will not only raise money, but also raise awareness of this issue and hopefully help get the university involved. If the university has new building, then incoming students would be more likely to live on campus and that would create more revenue for the school.

Venture Concept-  Incoming students would be more inclined to switch from off campus housing to on campus housing if the facilities were newly renovated. Off campus housing would be the most competition because they have more space to make more amenities, but they cannot say they are on campus. It is extremely important that these buildings are full after the renovations are complete to help pay for the new facilities. There would need to be many people hired to get this venture started. There would need to be construction workers, management, and a maintenance staff that would need to be hired.

In my first venture concept I was told that my format was easy to follow, so I tried to do that with this one as well. A lot of the information is the same as my first one, but I tried to go into more detail with this assignment. I did not have any negative feedback, so I tried to keep most of it the same and go into more detail.
